AAMC Radiology Department Excels in Patient Satisfaction

2/26/2014

Results from AAMC’s Press Ganey survey show that Abbeville Area Medical Center’s Radiology Department ranked in the top 25 percent nationally for overall patient satisfaction during the past year (August 2011 through July 2012). When patients were asked specifically how they rated the care received during their visit, the department ranked in to top 20 percent nationally for the same time period.

Press Ganey, the industry's recognized leader in health care performance improvement, works with more than 10,000 health care organizations nationwide, including 50% of all U.S hospitals, to improve clinical and business outcomes. Press Ganey ranks hospitals by asking patients to fill-out surveys. The findings are then compared with the other hospitals in the company’s database. More than 850 radiology departments were included in the comparison.
“About 3 years ago we decided to make a commitment to service excellence,” said David Able, Director of Radiology at AAMC. “Our patient surveys indicated that we definitely had some opportunity for improvement, so it became a focal point for our Radiology team. We developed a strategy, put the plan in place, and have seen a steady increase in our patient satisfaction scores since. It’s just been incredibly rewarding to see how far we have come, and the feedback we get from our patients only reinforces that.”
During the month of July, the Department ranked in the top 6 percent nationally in overall satisfaction and in the top 1 percent nationally when patients were asked to rate the care they received during their visit.
“To achieve such outstanding scores is a testament to the level of quality care we strive to provide,” said Rich Osmus, AAMC CEO. “Our radiology team works hard to make AAMC a smarter and safer healthcare option for the area.”
